Add a Threaded Insert Without Welding or Tapping

Drill the Hole. Insert the Nut.
Pull. Done.

The Vortek Rivet Nut Tool sets threaded inserts into thin panels, brackets, and sheet metal — giving you a strong, reusable threaded fixing point in material that’s too thin to tap, without welding a nut on the back.

✓ Interchangeable mandrels for different rivet nut sizes
✓ Manual compression — stop once the insert is securely set, do not over-compress
✓ Hole size must match the insert — confirm before drilling

The Problem It Solves

Thin material. No thread.
No access to the back of the panel.

Drilling and tapping doesn’t work on thin sheet metal — there’s not enough material for a thread to hold. Welding a nut on the back requires access you often don’t have. Rivet nuts solve both problems: drill a hole from the front, insert the rivet nut, compress it with the tool, and you have a strong, reusable threaded fixing point — no access to the back required.

How It Works

Three steps.
One solid threaded insert.

1. Drill the Hole

Drill a hole in the panel or bracket to the correct diameter for the rivet nut size you’re using. Confirm the hole size before drilling.

2. Insert and Position

Thread the rivet nut onto the correct mandrel, insert it into the hole, and position the tool squarely against the panel surface.

3. Compress and Set

Operate the tool to compress the rivet nut and set it in the panel. Stop as soon as the insert is secure — over-compression can strip the mandrel or damage the insert.

Customer Feedback

What customers love
about it.

★★★★★

“Used this to add threaded inserts to a custom bracket I was fabricating. Once I had the right mandrel fitted it set the nuts cleanly every time. Much neater than welding a nut on and a lot quicker.”

★★★★☆

“Good tool, does what it says. First couple of inserts I over-tightened slightly before I got the feel for it. After that it was consistent. The mandrel range covers most of what you’d need for general work.”

Vusi Mthembu

★★★★★

“I do a lot of panel and trim work and this has saved me a lot of time. Sets inserts quickly and the results are solid. Beats drilling and tapping by a long way for thin material.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need
to know.

What rivet nut sizes does it support?
It supports the sizes covered by the supplied mandrels. Confirm the mandrel sizes against your rivet nut requirements before ordering.
What happens if I use the wrong mandrel?
The thread size and pitch must match the rivet nut exactly. Using the wrong mandrel can damage the insert, strip the mandrel thread, or result in a poorly set insert.
How do I know when the insert is fully set?
The insert is set when you feel firm resistance and the rivet nut is secure in the panel. Stop at this point — over-compression can strip the mandrel or deform the insert.
What if the insert spins in the hole?
Stop and inspect the hole size, the insert grip range, and the compression. A spinning insert usually indicates the hole is too large or the insert hasn’t been compressed sufficiently.
Can it be used for structural vehicle repairs?
Only where the rivet nut fastening method is specifically approved for that application. Do not use rivet nuts as a substitute for structural fasteners unless the application permits it.
How do I maintain the mandrels?
Keep the mandrel threads clean and lightly lubricated as specified in the tool instructions. Inspect for wear or damage before each use.
